"My main inspiration is the early 19th-century dress of Northern Philippines during the height of colonial influence. The Spanish, English, and other Europeans introduced Victorian garments; the Chinese traded fine embroidered silks; and the Filipinos continued a tradition of brightly colored, striped, hand-woven cotton fabrics and light-as-air pineapple fabrics. Utilizing these, I hope to create a more modern take with avant-garde shapes and textures and hints of Victorian details." ~ Thea Canlas
