MBNYFW Repost: Katie Stern for Venexiana F/W 2011 Collection. @tfnow

The Venexiana F/W 2011 Collection Show took me by surprise, with designs that are to die for if you are a True Fashionista Now. The opening high energy of the show was like a dream of color flashes and red carpet show-stopping gowns. The segment with fur trimmed jackets and hand warmers were gorgeous, and probably shocking for anti-fur fans, but not me. I loved the luxurious use of purple faux furs, or a plum faux fur trim against a gold high neck jacket. The attitude of the models with their lower forward protruding legs and waist, and upper backward leaning head and bodice, with eyes framed by oversized eyelashes was visually stunning. My brain is frozen, as I search for fashion cliches and popular design phrases to describe the gowns. The fabric of the gowns seemed like East Indian saris, but it is really the imaginative use of sequins on fabrics such as emerald silk satin and Swarovski crystal applique on rose ivory Italian silk. The breath taking final look for the collection, was a ivory silk organza high neck petal wedding gown with Swarovski crystals.
