New York Fashion Week S/S12 officially starts tomorrow but Mimi Plange's S/S12 collection jump started it, with fashionista stars such as Rachel Zoe and Andre Leon Tally in attendance at her presentation held at the Asia Society. The presentation themed "A Flower In The Desert" consisted of 19 looks and is inspired by the Himpa and Herero women of present day Namibia. Ghanaian born Mimi globally infuses her looks with floral prints and pastel colors and the silhouettes are clean and streamlined. And my oh my, spring 2012 looks fashionably delicious indeed with eggshell blue, coral, and yellow infused with brights like fuchsia, kelly green and neon orange. The fabrics also tell the story of an airy spring, with choices of silks, silk twill, silk nylon, silk charmeuse and silk georgette.
Another highlight of Plange's presentation was the debut of two pairs of custom shoes from luxury footwear brand Manolo Blahnik. The collaboration of the shoes is reflected in the shoes design. The inspiration for the shoes is the Victorian dress of the Herero and the traditional dress of the Himba women of Namibia. The high heeled leather sandal with tassels, represents the Himba and the floral beaded bootie is reminiscent of Victorian Herero.
