Debarun Mukherjee’s Winter/Festive 2011 collection is inspired by a strange yet ancient companionship between the eye and its common adornment, Kohl. Predominantly, it plays with the duo-chromatic background of black and white.
Amongst models walking down the ramp, was the talented and versatile actor Bollywood Shefali Shah. She wore a black and white saree made of Chanderi with appliqué work. The music was a combination of Bollywood songs that represented the eyes. Debarun says, “We chose Shefali because she's a brilliant actor. She is also beautiful and has very expressive eyes. As a mature and talented actor, I have always adored her work and I feel my collection is appropriate wit her stature.”
Grand, simple and straight silhouettes mark the collection as Debaruns’ signature style. He believes in simplicity with grandeur. Indian fusion wear with elements of drama and fluidity is unique to his latest collection.
Saree’s, layered lengha’s, flowing dresses, one piece gown inspired occasional wear and long suits are a few of the silhouettes from the women’s line. Sherwani, long kurta’s, side pleated trousers and bhand gala are showcased for menswear on the runway.
The collection is interspersed with elements of colour as it denotes the colours of life, the third hidden player in the companionship. The colours manifest itself through the show stopper, accessories and shoes.
Monochrome is the new hero. Colour is the new sidekick. So come along, let us redefine a few rules.
