Larika Page’s victory in last year’s Emerging Designer Competition: Southeast, where she presented a structural white and cobalt “ode to Alexander McQueen” during the final showdown, has been a springboard to fashion success. Since last March, the energetic wife and mother has exhibited at AmericasMart Atlanta, where she landed her first retail account; been interviewed by Elle.com; accepted the Atlanta Fashion Award for Best Up & Coming Designer 2010; and expanded into the accessories market with a line of custom scarves. And her prevailing “Miami Beach—Circa 1950” CFW show has lead the way to another culture-inspired collection this year. “I was intrigued by the idea of designing a collection around cultural influences, but I wanted to do it in a unique way,” she says of her new pieces, which take cues from sumptuous African and Indian art. With separates displaying the designer’s signature voluminous proportions and fabric manipulations, this Fall 2011 collection “appeals to the strong, sexy, well-edited woman.”
