Hyden Yoo took us back into time of the 1950's era last night, both visually for the presentation and with the influence for his A/W 2011 Collection at the Soho House in NYC. As models playfully puffed on cigarettes and theatrically giggled to Blondie's, Rapture while in model stance, show-goers were in awe of them against a backdrop of the Soho House library. It was the perfect setting for Yoo's collection, based on the Edwardian style of 1950's England, popular with the youth subculture of Britain which eventually associated American rock and roll. I loved the models and styling of the clothes, and the staging of the visual presentation and lighting. The look of the female models was very androgynous with cinched waist dresses, capes and ponchos as well as wool sweaters. The male models seemed very relaxed in their single button blazers, skinny chinos and cardigans. The military style with a touch of preppiness, along with the color palette of dark purple, powdered pink and cool heather grey is a new type of fashion cool, though it's been a style already done in 1950's. I was really impressed with the staging of the presentation, more than the clothes because it seemed like, I was walking on to a movie-set waiting for the producer to say 'action'. I look forward for upcoming fall to update my wardrobe with one or two piece from the Hyden Yoo's collection because I love it.
