I attended the first show of the day for 2/11/2011, and it was a sight for luxury defined by the clean horizontal silhouette lines, dominated by classic blacks. New Yorkers love the color black, myself included, so I was happy when I saw the dominant choice of color, for both males and females in the collection. I am usually not a fan of sequins but it seem to be the trend for F/W 2011, which I saw in other shows as well. Therefore, it seemed quite the right choice for the designer/s of this collection, to include sequins in some of the pieces. I included a sequined gown to show you in my review because it was done differently from your typical sequined gown or blouse. Instead, it looked almost as if a pattern was printed with sequins already on the gown.
Blanc de Chine's collection is always unique and the designs are influenced from the ancient Chinese concept of The Five Elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. The clean horizontal lines makes every piece seem so relaxed to be in, and the influence of the Chinese concept is visible with the male tunic necks for both males and females. There are tunic neck gowns and tuxedo jackets and long coats, but it is also the silk fabric choice that also makes it seem so lightweight. My favorite of the collection was the classic black laser cut poncho worn over a long black gown. Though there was less fabric used on the poncho because of the laser cuts, the effect which created a lot of texture for a black on black, was high drama as the model arrived on the runway and for me, that was the showstopper of the collection.
