Michelle Obama wears Rachel Roy at State Of The Union Address . . . . And it's not to please Oscar de la Renta

While President Obama addressed America with his State of the Union Address last night, fashionistas were googling and twitting to find out which designer Michelle Obama was wearing. A silver gray sheath dress donned with tasteful lucite bracelet bangles was a perfect choice for the fashionable Mrs. O, with its' somber color tone as she sat with the family of Christina Taylor Green who was killed in the Tuscon, Arizona shooting. The First Lady was criticized by Oscar De La Renta for her Alexander McQueen gown she recently wore to the State Dinner of visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao. His position is that Michelle Obama should have worn an American designer instead of promoting European/UK designers.

It is therefore no surprise, that all eyes were on her tonite, to see what designer she chose to wear, which was not revealed until after the Presidents' speech via @AP_fashion & @rachel_roy on twitter. Though Oscar de la Renta's critique is, the First Lady wear an American designer for that night, should it not have been an Asian designer instead? The reason being that since Chinese President Hu Jintao visit is to promote growth and US relations, the First Lady should have worn an Asian designer, if Mr. de la Renta wants to make a point. It makes no sense for his argument because Michelle Obama really doesn't have a political motive for her fashion choices. Her choice tonite is not a political one either because Rachel Roy is an American designer. She has worn Roy's clothes before to other public events like a State Visit with her husband to India last year.

We love you Mrs. O for being a 'Tru Fashionista Now' because of your love for fashion and your choices of not following in the blueprint of other First Ladies like the great Jackie O. Being a Tru Fashionista Now, is someone who has their own interpretation and sense of style; color, silhouettes, designer and creativity and you have certainly made your mark in the fashion world with youe choices. The Barney Cheng Collection was a sight of things to come in world of fashion as Hong Kong Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011 continued. The fabric palette of metallic greys, silver and off-white was enough to set the tone of the collection that evoked a sense futurism. Yarn embroidered cocktail skirts and ruffled skirts created the texture without leaving each garment with a feel of the typical minimalist feel that we've seen over and over from designers who have approached this theme. Instead the embroidery, big belts and waistbands, yarns and lengthy use of fabric adds a new approach to this exciting theme. The Barney Cheng Collection brings luxury, high couture and a new sense of style of what to expect for Fall/Winter 2011 and we love it.
